Significant Improvements Made to RTTS
The mode is better than before but still not quite good enough to keep players engaged long-term.
We’re just a few days past the release of MLB the Show ‘24 and there are already so much positive feedback about the game. After watching some of the top MLB The Show streamers for a few days, it is consensus that the gameplay is overall better and seems much more fun for gamers.
The first mode I jumped right into, as per usual, was Road To The Show. I will start three different RTTS careers (don’t judge me). One as a female ballplayer, one as myself, and one as a two-way player named Danny Almonte (Google search his name).
To start, I began as myself.
You immediately notice significant changes to the “Road To The Show” process. You begin by participating in a 4-day MLB Draft Combine Showcase.
I’m a hitter, so my first step in the process was taking batting practice.
Immediately following, taking a few swings, the fielding instructor comes up to you and tells you what you will be working on in the field. I chose first base (even though I played outfield) for my position, so I fielded ground balls and field double play balls.
After the initial workout, you play in three MLB Draft Combine Showcase games with and against other top draft prospects. If you read my most recent article on changes I wanted for RTTS, you will see that this was one of the requests on my list.
So, seeing this added to this year’s edition was refreshing. After each showcase, your performance dictates your draft stock and projected draft round.
Once you're finished showcasing your abilities at the Combine, you chat with your agent. Another change I asked for was instead of choosing which team you want to play for, like last year’s game, let the draft play out and see where you land.
I had a rough start at the Combine since this was my first at-bats in this year’s game, but I recovered after the first two days. I let destiny decide where I ended up, and the Colorado Rockies drafted me in the 6th Round.
This is the first time the Rockies organization has drafted me, so it will be interesting. Some quality changes have made the beginning of RTTS more exciting. I will keep you all posted as my career progresses and walk you through my journey as a female ballplayer. It will be exhilarating to see how they approach the Combine as a two-way player when I play as Almonte.
This won’t be all I focus on with this game. I will play Diamond Dynasty for the first time this year and try out Franchise mode. It was an exhilarating first day for me on MLB The Show 24. So far, the gameplay is much better, and the changes to RTTS have also made it more exciting. I will begin my career in Double-A with the Hartford YardGoats in the Rockies organization. We will see where my career takes me, how contracts work, and whether I have more control over whether I can leave or stay.

What is it Like to Go Against the Game’s Current Top Player?
Spoiler: It’s not fun.
