Much Needed Changes Coming to Road To The Show
From women players to a more in-depth storyline, RTTS gets a major boost.
Days after publishing my article asking for some much-needed changes to Road To The Show we’ve quickly got some answers. Proof that someone is reading us here and listening.
Yesterday, MLB The Show made its announcement that is groundbreaking and game-changing. In this year’s game, there will be a unique storyline in which you can play as a woman in Road to The Show.
According to TheShow.com, "Road to the Show: Women Pave Their Way" will include existing "Road to the Show" features with a "unique-to-women storyline following a lifelong friendship as it develops in professional baseball.”
With legends such as Toni Stone, (one of the first women to play professional baseball) being included in this year’s edition of the game it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. It will provide a different path to the big leagues while simultaneously breaking barriers in baseball. It’s a win, win. It will be a new and fresh way to play the game mode, and will likely bring many female gamers (which is a growing number every day) to download the game and enjoy Road To The Show.
While some fans are unimpressed with this addition, some of baseball’s greatest minds love the idea.
In addition to those changes, MLB The Show must’ve read my recent article on 3 Ways To Improve Road To The Show. If you already read the article or clicked this link, you will notice one of my requests was to add a storyline and add more to the road before the minor leagues.
It’s a step in the right direction for games like myself that enjoy the Road To The Show Game Mode. I’m not getting my hopes up for anything extravagant story-wise, but it is a sign for the future they will be putting more into this game mode. Essentially, it has been the same for years with little to no changes being made. Getting two announcements in a matter of two days brings an all-new excitement to the game and will bring in new people to test the product.
Adding a Draft Showcase into the Road To The Show Storyline is probably my favorite addition. It gives the Game Mode more of a realistic feel to it and makes it more unpredictable since it is based on how you perform. What I love most about adding the ability to also create a woman ballplayer in RTTS is it’s also educating people much like they do with the Negro League’s stories in the game. Many people don’t know Kelsie Whitmore. Let alone the fact she is the first female player in an MLB Partnered League, member of the Women’s USA Baseball National Team, or even the 2022 USA Baseball SportsWoman of the year.
MLB The Show was even able to get a quote from Whitmore on her thoughts of this inclusion into RTTS:
“This new gameplay experience is a unique pivot in the baseball world that will encourage, inspire, and motivate individuals to chase their dreams. There has been a lot of deep thought, meaningful conversations, and the best intentions going into this. I am proud of MLB the Show for taking a chance of applying real-life change into the game. To me, this project is a great opportunity for the world to be informed of women who play baseball and that taking their skills to the next level is possible. My hope for this project is to educate others that women/girls do play baseball and that they are capable of competing in this game at every level.”
Seeing the young girl cutting a magazine article about Whitmore out in the promo video educates people. People watching that video who don’t know her will search her name and find out all kinds of information about her. MLB The Show is taking strides in the right direction, and as an avid fan of the game, it elevates my excitement level even more as we approach closer to launch week!
Stadium Creator Gets New Templates
For all you mad scientists who like building your home ballpark, MLB the Show announced 30 new stadium templates will be available this year to start your creations. (Sorry, but I can’t embed videos from Twitter because of some fight between Substack and Elon Musk.)
One bit of bad news: It still looks like bullpens can only be placed on the field instead of hidden away in the outfield like most current MLB stadiums.
NEW TO THE SUBSTACK: The Show: The Podcast
Each week, we’ll share the latest edition of “The Show: The Podcast” where Kenny DeJohn breaks down the latest MLB the Show news. This week he sat down with Nutzypoo to talk about the recent changes to Diamond Dynasty. Subscribe to Kenny’s content on YouTube at youtube.com/@kdjtv611 and catch a stream at twitch.tv/kdjTV.
Its lazy, add a female, fine, but its done as an excuse to ignore the game mechanics and the actual story in RTTS.
